"It is no measure of mental health to be well adjusted to a profoundly sick society" Jiddu Krishnamurti

nah

Looking at the promotional video for the new FUJI X100 digital camera, I thought for a second 'shit, this might be the first ok digital camera' - but then I went to their page with sample images, and thought 'you gotta be fucking kidding me, these are the images that should persuade me to buy an $1,200 fixed lens digital camera ???'. unbelievable.

here is my friend Phil's reaction to the image gallery:
'Well the dodgy b&w conversions piqued my interest, and the flower still life shots helped it along, but it was the cats that finally did it. I'm ordering two - one for backup. Shocking... seriously. They could've asked pretty much any photographer in Japan, or the world, to take sample shots for that, and that's what they came up with.'
hahaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaa.

shit, film is dead, let's all go digital. yeah right.

shape shifter kicks ass

My good friends from THINK TANK PHOTO recently sent me the SHAPE SHIFTER backpack, so I gave it a test ride on this trip to New York. And it really kicks ass. I don't use backpacks often, cause I usually need my gear to be readily accessible but for short trips out of town, or as an addition to my ROLLING CASE, this is ideal.

Organic

Even packaging for organic stuff looks better than conventional groceries ...

long gone

... I found this little photo album (mostly 6x9cm contact prints) lying around the house. It belonged to my grandmother, pictures show people having fun, hanging out with their friends, and now these people are all gone. As you look through it, you can't help thinking how normal it all looks, everyone has had moments like that, laughing, going to the beach, but we usually take these moments for granted. Instead of enjoying THE NOW, we worry about shit in the future, always thinking that true happiness is around the corner, and will be reached when our (ever changing) goals are achieved. That makes no sense. Happiness is a choice.

supply and demand

...As the effects of the nuclear disaster in Japan remain unclear, panicked US residents are doing whatever they can to get their hands on Potassium Iodide pills.Distributors of the FDA recommended pills have run out of stock, with one manufacturer reporting that they sold some 250,000 individual packets in a single weekend...

NUKE PILLS, suggested retail price $9.99, OUT OF STOCK

but you can get them on eBay for only $250

it's wednesday already

yep, you know, it's Monday, and then before you know it it's Friday, then Monday again. Time is flying. But lately I feel more and more that time is somehow accelerating, not just our perception of it as we grow older, but the actual time, can't really explain it ... I did some research on the topic (the almighty google) and stumbled upon the works of TERENCE MCKENNA, some really interesting stuff there; I think he was one of the most important thinkers of our time. His death didn't really make sense (think Bob Marley, Bruce Lee...), also, the fact that his library mysteriously burned down tells me his work was important ...

...
The relationship between photography and the spirit world of ghosts, apparitions and angels during the late nineteenth and early twentieth century was a blending of popular belief and scientific fraud. The lack of sophistication in the public in an age of deeply held religious values and the generally accepted belief that the camera recorded truth allowed the unscrupulous to exploit the situation for financial gain.
